24 Weeks

Best moment this week:  Spending time with my parents.  I get to spend all week with my mom and weekends with both mom and dad.  It's been so nice!!

Sleep:  About the same as usual.

Movement:  Some days I feel more movement than others and mostly at night.  Guess the baby is already exhibiting night owl tendencies like me and Russ.

Food cravings:  Still craving meat, especially beef.  But every now and again I crave something sweet.

Gender:  Unknown

What I miss:  Sleeping on my back.

What I am looking forward to:  Thinking about and deciding on baby names with Russ.

Milestones:  Baby is now considered viable, which means that if I were to have baby right now, he/she would have a fair chance of surviving.  Granted I hope and pray baby stays in there awhile longer but it's nice to know that baby has progressed to this milestone.

Baby Size:  corn

Weekly Wisdom:  If you're concerned (like I am) whether you're getting enough protein, fruit, veggies, and all that other good stuff in your diet, try keeping a food log.  It's helped me be more aware of what I'm eating and makes it easier to pinpoint areas that need improvement.  Also, you may surprise yourself and find that you're actually doing pretty good in some areas that you didn't expect.

23 Weeks

Best moment this week:  Receiving some beautiful flowers from Russ for Valentine's Day.  I'm not a big fan of the holiday itself, but I do like to flowers.

Sleep:  I've been sleeping pretty well.

Movement:  Feeling movement more and more.

Food cravings:  Sweets.....but with my glucose screen nearing I'm trying to be good.  It's hard though, I definitely have my weak moments.

Gender:  Unknown

What I miss:  Alcohol.....not that I'm an alcoholic or anything, I just miss drinking socially with my friends when we get together.

What I am looking forward to:  My first prenatal class this weekend.  It'll focus on prenatal nutrition.

Milestones:  Baby is learning to feel things like hunger, thirst, happiness, and sadness due to the rapidly forming cerebrum.

Baby Size:  large mango

Weekly Wisdom:  Try to educate yourself on all the options you have as a pregnant woman.  Not all doctors are up front about them so it's up to you to know what's available and what's necessary or not, and then to choose for yourself.

Ahoy Matey!!

I just got off the ship after spending 11 days with Russ and had such a great time.  I've ridden the ship twice before, but this was my longest trip.  During my visit we went to 5 different ports and I was able to see more of what his job is like and see the inner workings on what goes on from port to port.  Russ's work/sleep schedule was a bit different than my normal schedule but I did my best to get on his schedule in order to spend as much time together as possible.  It was so great to be able to just enjoy time together and not have to worry about cooking, cleaning, or pretty much anything.  It was like a vacation for me to just eat, sleep, and spend time with him.  Even though Russ and I talk/email frequently when we're apart, I still felt like I had so much to tell him and catch him up on.  I showed him my latest sonogram pictures, we listened to baby's heartbeat with the fetal doppler together, we talked about baby furniture, and spent some time with Ben too.

While we were out at sea, I found it to be so peaceful to be surrounded by the ocean, far away from the hustle and bustle of everything on land.  One night during Russ's watch I tried to capture the beautiful night sky but it was too dark out.  It was such a beautiful night that night......bright full moon reflecting off the ocean, lots of stars scattered across the sky, a nice breeze, the smell of the salty ocean in the air.....it was perfect.  Then there were nights of thick fog and cloudy skies; it seemed to vary every night.  One night it was super windy.  We had winds of up to 59.3 knots that made the ship tilt pretty far under its force, which was a little scary but also thrilling at the same time.

Even though I was on the ship a good while it seemed to just fly by!  When it was time for me to get off the ship and say goodbye, it was really hard.  Russ arranged for a cab to take me to the airport for my flight home and he rode with me.  I really appreciated him riding with me since it gave us a little bit longer to be together.  I was happy to take every minute I could.  It's looking like his next trip is going to be a long one.  My visit with him on the ship though renewed my spirit and will help me get through the next couple months while he's gone.  There was one more U.S. port on the schedule after I got off the ship so we were able to talk on the phone (without having to pay for phone cards--yippee!!) for a couple more days which was really nice---it's the little things :)

When my flight arrived in Atlanta my parents were there to pick me up.  It was so comforting to see their faces.  It's so nice that mom and dad are going to be here for six months because of my dad's job. And within that six months they'll help keep me busy while Russ is gone, they'll get to spend time with Russ when he gets back, they'll be here for the arrival of their first grandbaby, and still be around a little after baby arrives.  The timing couldn't be more perfect!

Here are some pictures of my time aboard the ship:

Russ, Ben, and Matt....Ben was relieving Matt on the ship as the 3rd Mate.

21 Weeks

Best moment this week:  Still being on the ship with Russ.

Sleep:  Sleeping as well as I can while trying to adjust to Russ's work schedule.  It's quite hard but worth it since doing so will allow me to spend the most amount of time with him.

Movement:  Feeling movement a little more distinctly these days.

Food cravings:  Had a crazy craving for strawberry ice cream and the ship just so happened to have some!!  What are the odds?!  I was a very happy camper!

Gender:  Unknown by choice.....any guesses???

What I miss:  Long, hot baths......my baths now are just warm and not very long.

What I am looking forward to:  Russ coming home....it'll be awhile but I'm definitely looking forward to it!

Milestones:  Baby has fingernails, toenails, eyelashes, and eyebrows now and is learning how to sleep and wake in cycles.

Baby Size:  banana

Weekly Wisdom:  Having a pregnancy app on your phone is very useful, especially when traveling.

20 Weeks

Best moment this week:  Getting to see Russ.....and I will be able to see him for more than just a day since I was approved to ride the ship....hooray!!!  :)

Sleep:  I am sleeping surprisingly well on the ship.....not sure why considering we are sharing a twin size bed.  I'm attributing it to being with my other half.

Movement:  Random thumps and thuds still.

Food cravings:  Still nothing in particular but I have been starting to want more sweets here lately (which is definitely a change from earlier on in the pregnancy).  I'm trying to be careful though because my gestational diabetes screen is coming up in a couple weeks.

Gender:  Unknown; we're waiting to find out until baby's big debut!

What I miss:  Going to the bathroom less frequently.....I go through about a roll of toilet paper a day, haha.

What I am looking forward to:  The rest of my time on the ship with Russ.....I feel like I have so much to share with him.  I had my anatomy scan the day before I got on the ship so I can't wait to share that experience with him, show him the ultrasound pictures, and let him hear baby's heartbeat on the fetal doppler!

Milestones:  A successful anatomy scan....baby looks healthy so far (see below).

Baby Size:  small cantaloupe

Weekly Wisdom:  You can stretch the life of your regular jeans while pregnant by using a ponytail holder to "button" them.
